Prebble Family Tales

We thought that bed rails on the sides of Gareth’s new twin bed would be enough. Guess he’s proved us wrong! A little over a week ago Gareth woke up early one morning and scooted himself off of the bottom of his bed. His nurse did not hear him moving around or falling to the ground until he was on the floor crying. After a few days of a sore foot, we took Gareth to the doctor for x-rays. He broke his big toe and a fractured a few bones on the top of his right foot! He has to wear a soft cast wrapped with an ace bandage for two weeks (5 more days to go!) <%popup(20040821-cast3.jpg|640|480|Break a leg--I mean--A foot! )%> He absolutely hates the cast and kicks his foot constantly to try to pull it off. For the first few days and nights he was restless, cried a bunch, and rarely slept. Now he’s dealing with it a bit better but still loves to have it off every few hours for a foot rub. <%popup(20040821-cast.jpg|640|480|Dealing with it a bit better now)%>None of us can wait until his two weeks are up–we are all hoping that his foot is healed enough then to remove the cast!! We have since put a bed rail on the bottom of Gareth’s bed, so that should keep the little guy safe and snug in bed from now on!

Before you get too excited…no, we are not expecting our second child yet. We just got a new kitten! We picked out Finnegan (Finn) at a pet store in town a few weeks ago. Finn and Gareth quickly bonded at the pet store and cuddled with each other the whole ride home. Finn snuggled right into Gareth’s car seat and Gareth pet him and kissed him from the pet store to our house! <%popup(20040821-finnandgar.jpg|640|480|The Ride Home)%> Gareth loves to play with Finn–he’ll hold up toys for Finn to bat at and he’ll laugh and laugh. <%popup(20040821-playingwithfinn.jpg|640|480|Playing with Finn)%> Finn snuggles up next to Gareth on the floor and in Gareth’s bed to cuddle quite often.

We traveled with Nana, PopPop and Aunt Brianna to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor for a family vacation in late July. Gareth did well on the car rides there and back (lots of listening to Raffi and Sesame Street CDs helped!) and he enjoyed his big adventure out of the state (his second trip out of the state this year!) We visited the National Aquarium when we first arrived–Gareth was hot and tired and slept for the first part, but then woke up and was very excited during the dolphin show. We stayed at a gorgeous hotel a few blocks away from the Inner Harbor. Gareth thought the huge bed in our hotel room was fun; he rolled and bounced all over it! <%popup(20040821-bed.jpg|640|429|Family Fun)%> Our first night we ate tons of sea food and shopped in the Harbor. Gareth was awake to enjoy Baltimore night life for just a bit, then he crashed in his stroller. <%popup(20040821-sleepingstroller.jpg|432|640|Tired Out)%> The next morning we got stuck in a torrential rainstorm during our walk to the Harbor. We all dried off under bathroom hand dryers and then set off for more shopping and sightseeing around the Harbor. <%popup(20040821-family.jpg|640|407|Inner Harbor Sites)%> We all had a great time getting away from home for a few days!
