Things are looking up!

After a couple of really rough months, life in the Prebble household has been a bit happier lately. Gareth’s belly woes seem to be improving–we tried a new feeding button size and so far this seems to have stopped the majority of leakage from his belly. We saw the neurologist this week who believes that the bout of seizures in April, along with some other things we saw, were due to a too high level of seizure medicine. So we’re cutting back on one medicine a bit and also using an add-on seizure medicine to hopefully better control Gareth’s seizures. We’re keeping our fingers crossed. Gareth seems to have developed some nasty spring allergies, but is otherwise healthy and happy these days. Hooray!
Gareth has been able to try bike riding this spring and has had so much fun with it! His preschool has an adapted trike–his feet and upper body get strapped to the bicycle and a higher seat provides more support. Once strapped in Gareth can pedal the bike all over the place. He can’t steer at all, but he loves to pedal around while we steer him in the right direction. It’s been so exciting to see him riding around! <%popup(20050515-bike.jpg|640|576|Riding around at the local playground)%> | <%popup(20050515-trike.jpg|487|640|Posing at home)%>
Here are some other fun pictures from the last month: Gareth’s class went on a trip to the Centre County Solid Waste Authority (where his Nana works) to tour the center while studying recycling. He loved checking out all of the big trucks and of course he enjoyed spending the morning with his Nana. <%popup(20050515-recycle center.jpg|640|398|Standing on the big trash scale)%> During a visit to his Pappy’s work one day, Gareth got to help drive the excavator around the parking lot. <%popup(20050515-excavator.jpg|640|520|Enjoying the ride)%>
In other good news…Trav’s work seems to be settling down a bit. He’s still had to make several trips to Philly in the last weeks, but his job seems to be a little more secure these days. For Mother’s Day, Trav gave me a wonderfully thoughtful gift. A local radio station was having an essay contest (Why is your wife the best mom?), and so he wrote a very lengthy and emotional entry and he won!! He was interviewed on the radio and I won a $500 gift certificate to a local jewelry store! What a great pick-me up!
