Tubular

Gare and Daddy go for a ride

Gareth has had ear tubes for years now to facilitate fluid release. Before having them, the fluid had built up in his ears so much that he was functionally deaf. Over those years, one fell out and one was on its way, so we spent the morning in Danville on Monday having new tubes put in. The entire process was relatively quick and must have been nearly painless as Gareth was back to his normal self once the anesthesia wore off.

He had an excellent day Tuesday, which was a surprise as he was awake from 11PM to 2AM the night before. When he got home, he used his letter magnets to spell out what it was he wanted to do with me for the evening (Brandy had a school parent/teacher night to attend). He spelled “COMPUTR”. That’s a big word for a five year old! Needless to say, we played with his Mercury while I cooked dinner.

Gareth got his first taste of some of my chili. He, uh, didn’t like it much. I think it was too spicy for him. Still, it did make him swallow, so at least now I know I can invoke his swallow by using anything from my collection of hot sauces. Of course, the downside is that he can’t chug a glass of water to soothe the burn should it prove to be too much for him.

The weather on Friday was insanely good. I snuck home for the afternoon in order to get some riding in on the Pino. All told, we rode for about an hour (counting occasional stops for suctioning and one major pit-stop to put on warmer clothes). Of course, now the county is covered in snow. We take our opportunities when they’re presented, but we’re looking forward to Spring weather.

We covered the removal of Gareth’s second tooth in an earlier post, but now we have photographic evidence. I think these photos look remarkably similar.
