Pneumonia

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Gareth got hit hard with pneumonia. He is still recovering but was at least well enough to go back to school today after missing a few days last week. The worst part was that he had to miss his pre-school graduation ceremony. He was pretty upset about that, but there was just no way he was well enough to go enjoy the festivities.

One of his classmates gave him an award for being able to eat directly through his stomach. Here’s hoping Gareth’s classmates in kindergarten are even half as cool as the ones in pre-school.

Kindergarten

We’ve met a second time with Gareth’s transition/IEP team. All indicators are that they’re looking to place Gareth in a regular classroom and make any necessary modifications. We’re absolutely thrilled with this news!

The team asked us if we’ve ever had Gareth on their playground before. I had to admit that Gareth and I are there all the time … to ride figure eights around the basketball hoops. He and I have never actually gotten off the bike to play on any of the equipment.

It also sounds like the school is adding some equipment to their building to aid in traversing and/or avoiding steps. The down side is that they don’t think they’ll have it in until late October. Sounds like they’re trying to do it as soon as possible, but Gareth may have to be wheeled outside the building to get to the lower common area where lunch is served and phys ed is held.
