Kindergarten Camp

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

7:00AM - The household awakes and prepares for the fateful day.

7:45AM - We all pile into the minivan and drive the two blocks to school in the miserable, pouring rain.

8:00AM - Gareth is placed into the hands of his nurse and his new team of educators.

8:15AM - Brandy and I return home. I have taken the day off so that Brandy isn’t left sitting around by herself worrying about Gareth.

10:45AM - Back to the school. We await the arrival of Gareth’s class at the front doors. He shows up along with his future classmates and tells us he had a good day. His nurse says the same.

11:45AM - We have lunch at Wegman’s and talk about school. Gareth admits to wanting to flirt with a couple of the girls.

3:00PM - We acquire two kittens at the SPCA.

No, I don’t totally understand myself how we went from a half day of kindergarten to increasing our home cat population. It just happened.

The End Approaches

The end of Gareth’s time at Easter Seals is rapidly approaching. In just a few weeks, he’ll begin attending kindergarten. I will be shuttling him in for the morning, and Brandy will be picking him up in the afternoon. What happens between those two points will be a mystery to us and a constant source of anxiety for Brandy. Up to now, she has almost always been in the same building as Gareth during the day. I don’t expect this transition to occur smoothly.

And now, to remind us how much this child has achieved already, a reverse chronological slideshow of Gareth photos…
