Song and dance man

Gareth did a pretty fantastic job making it through his holiday concert. It was especially impressive for a child that is normally asleep by 7PM. Not only did he manage to stay awake for the concert, he was up for another hour and a half after it was over because of all the excitement and adrenaline in his system.

U R … WHAT???

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

One of the classroom traditions in Gareth’s class is to have all the students make birthday cards for the birthday kid. This meant that Gareth arrived home yesterday with 19 cards (for some reason, he made a card for himself).

Most of the cards were cute. A few made honorable attempts at drawing a wheelchair. Most of the girls professed their love for Gareth.

But two girls… Two girls included the following phrase in their cards: “U R SEX”.

Well, well, well! It seems my mild mannered child is somewhat of a, shall we say, “playa“. What would compel two different girls to mention the sexiness of my child?

Brandy was appalled at the idea that kindergarten students knew such words. I contended that between Mtv and Bratz dolls, it was no surprise that girls were “riding Gareth’s jock“.

The truth, as usual, proved far less sinister. After about four hours, it occurred to me that these cards were for Gareth’s sixth birthday and that not every child knows how to spell “six”. I verified this with Gareth’s nurse just this morning who spoke personally with the children in question when she, too, was shocked to see “U R SEX” in the cards. The girls in question confirmed that they had written “you are six”.

Crisis averted. At least for the next 10 years.

Happy birthday!

Today is Gareth’s sixth birthday. A lot has happened in that six years, but the most amazing is that we managed to raise a very bright, very fun kid that is only a little spoiled.

Yes, that “little” part was a blatant lie.

Time for cake!
